Chasing a roll of cheese down a steep hill is not a tradition I suggest you adopt. But now is the perfect time for you to consider your holiday and end of year traditions and how they might need to be adapted or added to for this year.

For the last 400+years villagers in Brockworth, England compete in The Cheese Roll which involves chasing a 9lb Double Gloucester cheese, which is released by the Master of Cheese, down a steep incline known as Cooper's Hill. Each year it becomes a challenge of bravery, resolve, and fearlessness. It is the talk of the town for months before and after the spectacular race.

Traditions transcend generations and highlight what is most important to you.

• I still have the red ceramic mixing jug that a previous boss of mine gave me with her grandmothers favorite cookie recipe.

• I still own the brass letter “S” that every member of the House Of Fraser Swindon department store management team received when we opened the new store.

• I remember fondly the bagpipes that played every New Years Day at the staff entrance welcoming in the New Year.

• I still have the hand written letters that one of my previous bosses would write to each of their team every quarter.
