The photos below are damage from the shooting at the White House checkpoint at 17th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW on Saturday, May 23. Our photographer, Bill Starrels, captured photos that show damage from a bullet that shattered the glass at the White House Visitor Center on the corner at 17th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. The glass is bullet resistant, according to a building engineer at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. That structure was hit approximately 10 times by gunfire. The photos show bullet holes in the facade of the building, as well as additional damage. 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. NW is approximately 350 feet from the checkpoint.

The gunman, Nasire Best, was killed and a bystander was shot and seriously injured. He was said to have previous run-ins with Secret Service.
