Becoming an entrepreneur with your significant other

Upgrade Your Space
Running a business out of your home can be a great choice, but only if your home is big enough to accommodate it.  Realize that some of the space that you currently are using for living purposes might need to be converted into spaces where you and your partner can work on the business.  Work out which areas can be used for business purposes (even if only temporarily) and which are off limits, so that your personal and business lives don’t conflict in your shared space.

Become a Legal Entity
Choosing a business structure is one of the most important steps as entrepreneurs because it has many tax and legal implications.  Whether you choose to be sole proprietors, an LLC, corporation or any other type of business, you and your partner need to research and agree upon what type of business you’ll start and then go through the process of legally forming the business together.  You can even file the paperwork to start your company right from your computer or smartphone.  Compare reviews for online formation services before you choose one to form your business.

Promote Your Product With Videos
Don’t just tell your customers about your great products — show them, too. Instagram, TikTok, and other content sharing platforms have become some top tools for entrepreneurs to market their businesses through the use of video. Use short videos to showcase a new product, or weave together a few videos to craft a compelling montage. Worried you don’t have the skills? Never fear. Online video tools make it easy to quickly combine videos to create engaging content you can immediately post on your preferred social media platforms.

Make Time for You
Running a business with your significant other can be just as stressful as it is rewarding. Be intentional about making time to connect as a couple, and not as business partners. Schedule a regular date to let you escape from work and spend quality time together.

Set a rule that you can’t talk about work on your date. Try to do an activity that has nothing to do with your own business. For example, if you own a restaurant, plan a date at the aquarium to help you enjoy a different experience and avoid the temptation to discuss work.

Get to Work
Introducing entrepreneurship to your relationship is a major change, but can certainly be a good one if you do it right. You can’t go wrong when you secure enough space for your home business, choose the right structure, use compelling videos, and spend time as a couple to help your business flourish.
