Georgetown Village marked its 15th anniversary by holding its annual gala at the historic City Tavern and honored the best of the best in Georgetown: author Kitty Kelley.
Lynn Golub-Rofrano, executive director of Georgetown Village, spoke to gala attendees in a standing-room-only Great Room of the 18th century building. She recounted how Georgetown Village had helped a member navigate through financial scams and household challenges as well as assisting during hospice care later. The nonprofit launched in 2011 and helps adults 55-plus age in place. The organization offers, community social events, volunteer services and health-related programs to combat isolation and support independent living.
As she accepted her award, Kelley, who lives on Dumbarton Street, remarked: “I do love this neighborhood so much. I can go out to the movies. I can go get a drink … I live by the post office. I live by a tavern. [laughter] I even live by churches. [more laughter] I have to tell you it is so wonderful to see all young young people here. So, cheers to you! Thank you! You support such a great thing for those of us who want to live in our houses.”
