Explore Georgetown’s Routes in Civic Engagement
Want to learn more about where you live? Georgetown Heritage is hosting three walking tours throughout the summer in honor of America’s 250th and Georgetown’s 275th birthdays. Guests can explore the neighborhood’s history of civic engagement with 90-minute, 1.5-mile tours. First up is the East Village, which will begin at the Georgetown Public Library and will walk through the east side of Georgetown, stopping at historic homes and sites. The Friends of Book Hill Park Are Hosting a Wine, Cheese and Charcuterie Night

Tomorrow evening at the home of chef Nora Pouillon, the Friends of Book Hill Park are hosting a wine and cheese party to help save the six beech trees in the park. Of the six, the biggest is estimated to be about 80 years old. Losing the trees would greatly alter the appearance (and ecosystem) of Book Hill Park. Support Friends of Book Hill Park here.

Now through June 28, Roundhouse Theatre is presenting the regional premiere of the play “Sally and Tom” by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks. Get ready to see a scrappy little theater group that stages a play about Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings, an enslaved woman inherited by Jefferson. Rehearsals descend into chaos and there are powerful truths discovered about race, power and art. More information on tickets can be found here.
Washington Performing Arts to Present ‘Children of the Gospel Choir & Alumni Choir’

Friday evening at Cramton Auditorium at Howard University, Washington Performing Arts will be showcasing an evening of music, artistry and powerful praise featuring the WPA’s Children of the Gospel Choir and Children of the Gospel Alumni Choir. Expect a five-piece band accompanying the singers, vivid imagery and a timely message with the year-long theme of RISE (Resilience, Identity, Spirit and Expression). Stellar and Dove Award-winning gospel artist Anthony Brown will be making an appearance as well. More information on tickets can be found here.
The Nationals Post-Game Summer Concert Series Returns

Every year, the Nationals bring a Summer Concert Series that has music artists give a free mini concert after certain games. The series, presented by Harris Teeter and Coca-Cola, begins Friday night with Taio Cruz, an award-winning British singer, songwriter and producer known for his hits like “Dynamite” and “Break Your Heart.” More information on the concert series can be found here.
It’s Time for Summer Reading at the Capital Rare Book Fair

At the University Club on 16th St. NW in Downtown D.C., the Capital Rare Book Fair will be set up Friday through Sunday. The event will feature two dozen booksellers from all over the U.S., selling books, prints and documents from sci-fi, to 16th century bibles, and plenty of other subjects. The fair opens Friday evening with a party and is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. More information can be found here.

Artists Blas Goncalves-Borrega and David Prete are giving a 3-D printing and cartooning workshop on Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Art Museum of the Americas. Prete is a sculptor and art professor at the University of the District of Columbia and Goncalves-Borrega is a professional cartoonist and comic artist. On Saturday evening at THEARC Theatre in SE D.C., Levine Music is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a student showcase concert. The concert will feature performances by students who represent the vast array of ages, departments and musical disciplines that the organization offers.
