The Company's Hydrogen Sulfide Monitors Perform Well In Critical Wastewater Treatment Applications

Operators of wastewater treatment plants are under continuous public scrutiny regarding odor control issues. While many offending compounds can be identified, the most common is hydrogen sulfide—familiar for its "rotten egg" smell. Besides its foul odor, H2S is also toxic and corrosive.

Thus, a variety of odor control technologies have been deployed in these facilities.

Key to measuring the performance of any odor control system is the reliable detection of low levels of hydrogen sulfide. After all, the odor threshold of this compound is 0.1 parts-per-million (or even lower), with the odor becoming more offensive at 3-5 ppm.

Typical ranges of interest in the odor control application are 0-200 ppm full scale on the influent side; and as low as 0-1 ppm full scale on the effluent side. This means that the industry is interested in sub-parts-per-million numbers. Of course, that stands to reason, given the very low odor threshold for hydrogen sulfide.

"Enhanced sensor technology has enabled Interscan to offer some of the most sensitive hydrogen sulfide gas analyzers on the market today," says John Mora, one of the company's sensor gurus. "We are proud to serve the industry and do our part in odor control." Most installations are continuous monitoring systems, but in some cases, spot-checking is performed with portable models.

Interscan invites all inquiries for hydrogen sulfide gas detection.
