The Friends of Volta Park gathered June 4 for its annual cocktail party at Fathom Gallery on Wisconsin Avenue to celebrate the completion of major upgrades throughout the public park along Volta Place, 34th and Q Street.

FOVP President Saraya Arnold greeted her neighbors and park supporters: “What I love about Volta Park is that everyone has their own connection to it. … Even in the middle of a major city with so much going on around us, this neighborhood still feels like a small town. … And because so many people care about this place, Friends of Volta Park has been able to make meaningful, tangible improvements over the years. It is you being here tonight and our many events plus sponsorships and donations that have made all improvements possible.”

Arnold added: “If you walked by the playground recently, you’ve probably noticed the new picnic tables and benches. The entrance by the Q Street basketball and tennis courts has also been transformed with refreshed pathways, new landscaping, mulch and a beautiful flowering dogwood planted in memory of our dear friend and neighbor, Nina Richardson.”

“We’re also grateful for the city’s ongoing investment in Volta Park. We’re excited that the field and baseball diamond have reopened today. And there’s still more work ahead!”
