Pamela D. Wilson, the caregiving expert, will be hosting FREE live online monthly support groups for family caregivers. Caregivers interested in joining the support groups can join by visiting the main page of the website https://www.pameladwilson.com in the section for Online Support Group or by clicking on the link associated with this press release.

The first FREE online support group begins on February 2, 2019, at 9 a.m. MST. The groups will be scheduled each month.

The pressures of caregiving are limitless. Caregivers are stressed and time-limited. The responsibilities and tasks of caregiving, working, and caring for their own families leaves caregivers little time for other activities.

Caregivers know they need support but find it difficult to set aside time to drive and attend local support groups. Caregivers in small towns or rural areas may have no local support options. Attending in-person support groups is complicated by finding someone to sit with a loved one, who cannot be left at home alone so that the caregiver can leave home to attend the group.

Options for Real Online Caregiving Support Are Limited

Most caregiver online support programs are "message board type programs."  In message board programs, caregivers post questions to the group, and other caregivers in the group respond with their experiences.  Many of the groups run on a" self-help model" meaning that there is no caregiving expert involved to respond or connect with caregivers in the group.

While message board groups are helpful, caregivers seeking information online become easily frustrated with generic information. When problems exist, caregivers prefer answers or directions for problem-solving that is specific and actionable from a trusted source.

Embracing Life's Transitions

Information, scheduling, and access to the live online support group are available at on the main page of the website. The format for the group is a discussion of timely caregiving subjects in addition to Pamela responding to questions submitted by caregivers into the group.

The benefits for caregivers participating in support group programs include:

·         Acknowledging and listening to the feelings and experiences of caregivers. It is rare that caregivers are asked by anyone how they are feeling. Instead, the question is posed about the care recipient. For example, "how is your mom or dad?" The emotional and physical stress of caregiving can be debilitating.

·         Receiving solutions, suggestions, and direction for problem-solving. There are few places where caregivers can ask a broad range of questions and receive reliable answers. Pamela's 20 years of expertise as a court-appointed guardian, power of attorney, and care manager is authentic, rare, and valuable in supporting caregivers.

·         Creating community, camaraderie, and the opportunity to communicate with other caregivers. Caregivers are a rare group of individuals who are empathetic to other caregivers because they understand that caregiving doesn't get easier.

·         Pamela believes humor and laughter are part of caregiving. She turns negatives into positives and brings light and hope into caregiving situations.

Pamela is committed to caregiving support. Her personal and professional experience helps caregivers and aging adults to avoid common pitfalls, reduce stress, and gain confidence in managing care.  Through her website, www.pameladwilson.com she offers support groups and programming for caregivers.
