Terry Brock here! NotebookLM just dropped a wild new feature — the ability to auto-generate Shorts straight from your sources — and I’m walking you through exactly how it works, including a few tricks I haven’t seen anyone else talk about yet.
It is wonderful! In this video I’ll show you how I use it for learning, onboarding, and content creation, plus my “Brock Business Bookends” method for blending AI-generated video with your own authentic voice.

WHAT NOTEBOOKLM’S NEW SHORTS FEATURE ACTUALLY DOES
NotebookLM’s Studio panel now includes a Shorts option alongside Video Overview, Cinematic, and Explainer formats. It’s built to give you a bite-sized, roughly 60-90 second overview pulled only from the sources you upload, so there’s no risk of it wandering off and grabbing outside information (and the hallucinations that come with that).
USING IT FOR LEARNING AND ONBOARDING
This part is great for all of us who believe in life-long learning!
I talk through how you can break tough topics into digestible chunks, load reference material, and generate a series of short videos for each concept. This works great for personal learning, but it’s also a smart way to onboard new hires or virtual assistants on your standard operating procedures.
THE STUDIO TOOLBOX
Beyond Shorts, NotebookLM’s Studio gives you slide decks, mind maps, flashcards, infographics, audio and video overviews, condensed reports, and data tables.
I cover why having multiple formats matters, since people learn differently, whether that’s visual, auditory, or kinesthetic.
CUSTOM PROMPTING TIPS
I show you how the “describe your own” custom prompt field lets you tell NotebookLM to emphasize a specific point, pull in a particular image, or reference a URL. This is where you get real control over the output instead of settling for generic.
THE BROCK BUSINESS BOOKENDS METHOD
This is the part I really want you to walk away with.
I explain how I combine an AI-generated NotebookLM short in the middle with my own on-camera intro and outro, recorded and edited together using Camtasia.
It’s a technique borrowed from my old radio days (we used to call it a “doughnut”), and it gives you the efficiency of AI with the authenticity people are craving right now.
TOOLS MENTIONED
Video editing options discussed include Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, iMovie, Movie Studio, and Canva. I mention that outsourcing simple video assembly to editors overseas is another affordable option if editing isn’t your thing.
Let me know in the comments if you try this out, or if you’ve got questions on how to set it up for your own business. I’m Terry Brock with Stark Raving Entrepreneurs, alongside my partner Gina Carr.
