Colorado Author Writes Thriller On the Power of Religion

Denver, CO March 24, 2020 – In today's more secular age, sometimes it's hard to believe that religion still has an impact in our society. And yet, every day, there's still an undeniable power religion has in our culture and our everyday lives, often shrouded in an aura of mysticism and mystery. There's no better example of this aura than in religious artifacts that have popped up over the years and the reverence they're treated with. In Katherine Burlake's newest novel, The Last Request, this power is explored to great depth as a daughter tries to find the truth behind the Shroud of Turin in a nation-hopping thriller guaranteed to satisfy fans of mystery and suspense.

The Last Request is a sequel to Burlake's first novel, The Bystander, following Amy Prowers as she reels from the untimely and suspicious death of her father in a plane crash. Having to abandon her life and career, she finds herself trying to fulfill his last request to her and is left with words of warning: Be careful who you trust. Her journey takes her from the Balkans to Mexico as she tries to locate the real Shroud of Turin. As a North African leader and former Nazis are also on its trail, it becomes clear this journey will change not only Amy's life, but the fate of Christianity itself.

"What I wanted to do was write a book that had a message," Burlake has stated, "but also was interesting and kept people engaged along the way."

The book is the second in Burlake's Amy Prowers series of thrillers, with both books drawing from her life and her travels to over 130 countries.

Burlake has also done extensive research into World War II for the novel, as Amy finds out more about her father's past serving in the war and his history with the Shroud, giving history buffs something to sink their teeth into in this thrilling adventure.

Katherine Burlake has travelled to 130 countries and her experience living in Thailand, Germany, and England led her to working for the Department of State. She uses her experiences in international relations to write thrilling and engaging novels. The Last Request (Meroe Press, First Edition 2017, ISBN 978-0998973432, $17.95) is currently available to buy at Barnes & Noble, and Amazon in hardback, trade paperback, and ebook.
