MORRISTOWN, NJ (Expansionary News Service) November 7, 2009. Breakthroughs in genetic engineering, stem cell science, and nanotechnology will enable people to live incredibly long lives, and do so in better health than ever before. But Americans' fear that the health care bills currently being debated in Congress would make it difficult for them to gain access to these medical wonders in the future.

In a recent interview on KNX-AM, the LA/Southern Calif. CBS news outlet, Dr. Michael G. Zey, noted futurist/sociologist and author of Ageless Nation and Seizing the Future, said that the public will emphatically oppose any new program they think will lead to rationing of these new services or treatments, including cochlear implants, Lasik surgery, heart transplants, hip replacements, or any of the host of new treatments in the pipeline.

"The simple fact is that people want to live as long as possible," Zey stated, "and they are not convinced the proposed Senate and House health care bills will help them do that."

According the Dr. Zey, the best way to make high-quality health care affordable for all is to allow patients to buy insurance across state lines and let them join private insurance-buying pools. Patients should consider medical tourism, traveling to other countries for lower priced quality health care, a realistic treatment option. Also, Dr. Zey says, we must vastly increase the number of doctors and nurses in the U.S.

"Politicians, and that includes the President," Dr. Zey says "Must understand that people are demanding access to the best treatments and technologies medical science has to offer."
