In: Frankies Bikinis
Believe it or not, summer is coming, and Frankies Girls will be ready.
Malibu-born lifestyle brand Frankies Bikinis opened its first storefront in the mid-Atlantic region last month at 1240 Wisconsin Ave. NW, featuring the brand’s on-trend dresses, knits, bikinis, and apparel separates.
Founded by mother-daughter duo Mimi and Francesca Aiello in their Malibu home in 2012, the brand has since grown into an internationally recognized company. Frankies Bikinis has partnered with iconic women including Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Pamela Anderson, and most recently, Jennie. The brand has also collaborated with Kylie Jenner’s brand, Khy, as well as with other major clothing brands such as Réalisation Par and Victoria’s Secret.
Frankies Bikinis founder Francesca Aiello says, “We couldn’t be more excited to join such a thriving and historic community. So many of our Frankies Girls are already here, and opening our first store in the area felt like such a natural next step.”
In: American Vintage (from France)
Now open at 3122 M St. NW is American Vintage (not a thrift shop). Inspired by American casual dressing and his travels across the USA, Michaël Azoulay founded the Marseille-based fashion brand, famous for its ultra-soft cotton basics and colorful knits, in 2005. He adds: “Our wardrobe? Colourful and comfortable essentials designed for the whole family and made to last.”
In: Sourced by Scottie
A pop-up vintage clothing shop no longer. “After three whole years of doing pop ups in Georgetown, D.C., we’ve found a place to call home… and you might just be familiar with the space,” we’re told. Sourced by Scottie’s first permanent location opened last month at 3144 Dumbarton St. NW. “It just felt like ours.” Welcome (again) to the neighborhood!
Coming: Ellizabetta La Strega (by Apéro)
Ellie Benchimol, the sommelier and owner behind French bistro Apéro on P Street will pay tribute to her grandma with Ellizabetta La Strega in the West End, according to the Washington Business Journal.
The Italian restaurant and bar will make its summer debut at 2401 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, formerly the space for Marcel’s, which chef and restaurateur Robert Wiedmaier closed two years ago after 25 years at the spot.
The restaurant will feature authentic, modern American Italian — “with our spin on some of the classics” — while the La Strega bar will embrace cocktail-driven culture with infusions and an apothecary-style atmosphere, WBJ noted.
Coming: Thurma
Thuma Inc., a San Francisco-based furniture retailer, is coming to Georgetown.
The company recently submitted plans pending review by the Commission of Fine Arts to build out space at 3229 M St. NW, according to the Washington Business Journal. That space was last occupied by a Fedex store, which closed last year.
The Journal added: “Thuma, founded in 2018, has developed a loyal following in the San Francisco area, though it only recently started to branch out to other cities. It opened a flagship store in New York in 2024 and has others in the works in West Hollywood, California, and Denver.”
Out: Ally Banks Interiors
After almost five years at 1661 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Ally Banks Interiors is closing it doors — and having a big sale at the store. However, the full-service residential design firm will continue and tells us: “As a design firm, our mission is to approach each project with the commitment to create beautifully designed spaces that reflect our client’s personality and how they live. We turn houses into homes by working with the client every step of the way.”
