In: Florería Atlántico, Brasero Atlántico

Georgetown has received quite a gift from Argentina.

Florería Atlántico and Brasero Atlántico, the cocktail bar and restaurant, respectively, run by Renato “Tato” Giovannoni and Alex Resnik, set up in the old firehouse near the C&O Canal at 1064-1066 Wisconsin Ave. NW. Founded in Buenos Aires in 2013, the business has locations in Spain and Bahrain with more in the works.

Marc Ross on social media opined last spring on the proposed opening: “This is sensational and will soon be the hottest cocktail joint in DC. Nothing like Florería Atlántico exists anywhere in the US, let alone D.C.”

The place is a flower shop that also stocked with wines sold until 2 a.m., but it’s the basement bar that’s the place to check out. Next door is a 55-seat restaurant, soon to open, with an open-flame grill and a mural of hand-drawn mythological sea creatures.

“We try to represent the way of eating out in Argentina,” Giovannoni told Eater DC. “You interact with everybody and see the chefs and the bartenders all working together.”

Giovannoni told Nycci Nellis of “The List, Are You On It?” of Florería Atlántico’s storytelling: “Washington is a city of diplomats, immigrants, and dreamers. In that way, it’s not so different from Buenos Aires. We’ve designed the D.C. space with that same narrative in mind, beautiful, but layered with meaning. The cocktails here will also carry stories, adapted to the history and flavors we find in this city. You’ll recognize the DNA of Florería Atlántico, but it will have its own D.C. accent.”

Resnick added his view of Brasero Atlántico: “Fire is universal, it’s one of the first things humans shared across cultures. In Argentina, it’s central to our cuisine, but we’re bringing a wider lens to the menu here. Just like Tato’s cocktails, each dish draws on immigrant influences, from Mediterranean spices to Andean produce. Together, the food and drinks are in conversation, one bite sparking the next sip.”

In: Ornare Opens on Sept. 25

Ornare, the Brazilian brand recognized for its custom cabinetry and luxury interior solutions, will open its newest showroom —?and first in Washington, D.C. — on Sept. 25 at 3340 Cady’s Alley NW.

“Opening a showroom in Washington, D.C., is a major milestone for us,” said Ornare founder and CEO Murillo Schattan. “D.C. is such an important city globally, and it’s always been our dream to have a presence here.”

Coming: Monos Travel

Monos Travel Luggage is set to open at 3124 M St. NW, previously a store for Atmos sneakers.

The Canadian business tells us: “We value simplicity, and we believe that a well-designed, premium suitcase doesn’t need to be loud and flashy – it simply speaks for itself. In today’s throwaway society of passing trends and mass consumption, we design our pieces to be timeless classics, with an understated aesthetic that stands the test of time.”

Coming: Cottage House

Cottage House, an Ethiopian restaurant, is coming to 1529 Wisconsin Ave. NW, which most recently housed City Sliders — and before that, Zannchi, Yummy Crawfish and Puro Cafe.

The business application reads: “The establishment will be a Restaurant with seating for 56 inside the premises. Summer Garden with seating for 10 and a capacity of 20. Streatery Endorsement with 12 seats.”

Out: Little Words Project

Little Words Project, the playful bracelet shop at 1246 Wisconsin Ave. NW, closed last month. The business “aims to inspire and encourage people to be kind to themselves and to pay that kindness forward, one bracelet at a time.”

Out: Solbiato Sport?

The clothing line and multi-label designer boutique at 1511 Wisconsin Ave. NW has closed — but remains as an online store.

Out: Smoothie King

Smoothie King has left 3122 M St. NW after two years. Founded in Kenner, Louisiana, in 1973, Smoothie King is now South Korean owned, with 1,000 locations worldwide.

Out (Temporarily): Olivia Macaron

Macarons in a dozen flavors and gourmet coffee are the specialties of this upscale, elegant bake shop, located at 3270 M St. NW in the Georgetown Park retail complex.
