A jewel of Georgetown, Book Hill Park’s inviting beauty beckons dedicated admirers, passersby and supporters to enjoy its spring splendors.  Cherry blossoms, daffodils and an array of perennials fill the sloped park located behind the Georgetown Library on Wisconsin Avenue and Reservoir Road. The once-derelict park, completely overhauled by visionary volunteers in 2000, is maintained by donations, grants and the caring oversight of a small committee of neighbors. Book Hill Park needs you!

As money unfortunately does not grow on trees, Book Hill Park’s non-profit board is asking the community to support fundraising efforts to repair and repaint sections of its historic trident iron fence to keep it viable in the years to come. The park must raise $10,000 for this restoration in addition to securing support for ongoing landscape and hardscape maintenance for which Book Hill Park receives no regular city monies nor dedicated Georgetown BID funds.

“Georgetowners have been generous in past years to help keep this special park beautiful,” said Julia Diaz-Asper, Book Hill Park’s former president. “We are in urgent need of this additional support now to act on an excellent bid we received for the fence repair and to replenish our coffers for ongoing expenses to keep the park tended year-round.”

Prominently located on the slope behind the Georgetown Library on Reservoir Road and Wisconsin Avenue, Book Hill Park has become a neighborhood fixture and generated lively interest in the neighborhood’s northern most commercial area, in addition to being a peaceful retreat unto itself. The park featured the Georgetown BID’s Christmas tree this winter and is a popular convening spot when Georgetown shops host festivals such as the French Market and Fete de la Musique.  Daily, it offers vital, natural and gently landscaped charm to commuters or strollers passing up Wisconsin Avenue.

Please consider investing in the ongoing preservation of this year-round urban oasis with a tax-deductible donation to Friends of Book Hill Park.  For more information about the history of Book Hill Park or to donate online, please visit bookhillparkdc.com and click donate at the bottom of the page.
