There’s an apologist for everything these day. When I mentioned that I require people to have their video on as a courtesy during Zoom calls, some social media pseudo-guru told me that “many people are psychologically unprepared to be present that way.” I guess they must be petrified on elevators, unless they wear masks.
When I critique poor grammar and speech by people on TV with millions watching them, I’m told by apologists that I’m “publicly shaming.” Really? These people are making tens of millions are are supposedly role models. Wouldn’t they want to improve?
I mentioned someone once, without using a name or other identification, who had “stolen” products from me in that she refused to pay as promised and would no longer communicate. I was told ┬áthat I was being harsh, the person probably couldn’t afford my products and was embarrassed. I was told that I was the one acting poorly, complaining about theft.
If we keep apologizing for incorrect and inappropriate behavior and language, then we passively accept it and degrade conversations and interactions. In some jurisdictions today, shoplifting under a certain amount of monetary value is not considered a crime, nor warrant an arrest.
Remember when you had to work hard to stand out in a crowd? Today, if you can just manage to stand still, you can watch the crowd recede around you.
