There will be a big push to rescue a pet from a shelter on Saturday, August 17, in which thousands of rescue and pet shelters will be participating. This rescue day is due to a Clear the Shelters pet adoption campaign supported by Comcast and NBC-Universal-owned TV stations. On this day, the shelters will be waiving or reducing their adoption fees to encourage individuals to rescue their dogs, cats, and other animals. On August 23, a Clear the Shelters TV special will air on NBC stations around the country. Then, the annual National Dog Day will be observed on August 27. The day encourages dog ownership of all breeds, and the National Dog Day Foundations was founded to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.
Thus, it seems fitting that a new film on rescue organizations and owners -- Rescue Me - will begin filming on September 10-21 in Contra Costa County. It will feature the work of nearly a dozen rescue organizations and shelters, along with interview of about three dozen owners of rescue pets. It will include a look at how some of these owners and foster parents have gotten their pets and care for them.
The film is a follow-up to the recently completed Me, My Dog and I, which compares two dozen owners of big and little dogs. The film is scheduled for release in October 2019 and will be featured at the upcoming American Film Market in November.
Both films are produced by Changemakers Productions and Dear Skyyler Productions, and they are written and executive produced by Gini Graham Scott, based on Lafayette, California. Rescue Me is the 10th co-production of the two companies in the past five years.
Scott was inspired to write and produce the Rescue Me documentary after touring one of the major rescue organizations, ARF in Pleasant Hill, with a group from Leadership Contra Costa County. In addition, she has been involved in a series of projects dealing with dogs, including Do You Look Like Your Dog?, a book published in 2004 by Random House and a game published shortly after that by Briarpatch as well as a series of books on using dogs to better understand your own personality type and deal with others, including What Kind of Dog Are You?, What's Your Dog Type?, and Using the Dog Type System for More Success in Your Work and Life.
Promotion for the film and the dog projects which inspired it is being handled by Jana Collins at Jones & O'Malley, an L.A. based PR company.
