The annual French Market returned to Georgetown for its 23rd year the weekend of April 24 through April 26. Hosted by the Georgetown Business Improvement District, the open-air market brought a taste of France to Wisconsin Avenue.
The Georgetown French Market has become a signature springtime event in Washington, D.C., drawing both locals and visitors who are excited to browse, shop and sample food and drinks. This year’s market offered a lively mix of shopping, entertainment and cuisine, with over 45 locally owned boutiques, cafés and galleries participating in sidewalk sales and special promotions.
Shoppers could explore everything from fashion and home goods to art and specialty items, all offered at festive outdoor stalls. Beyond retail, the market featured live music performances, a playful mime, a caricature artist and even a unicyclist weaving through the crowd. Activities for children and a pop-up book sale were also set up along the street.
Of course, no French Market would be complete without the food. Neighborhood restaurants showcased a selection of French-inspired offerings. Visitors could enjoy freshly baked pastries, crêpes, croissants and colorful macarons, or lunch items grilled outside. Many local restaurants also offered drink specials, including discounted wines, giving guests a chance to sip and stroll in true European fashion.
For organizers, the market is more than crêpes and accordion music. It is a celebration of Georgetown’s small business community and a chance for shop owners to connect directly with customers in a festive, open-air setting.
Throughout the weekend, Wisconsin Avenue remained busy, particularly in the afternoon hours. Crowds filled the sidewalks as people moved between shops, stopped to watch performances, or paused with food and drinks in hand.
Now in its 23rd year, the Georgetown French Market continues to grow in popularity, signaling the arrival of spring and offering a weekend escape filled with culture, cuisine and community spirit. Whether visitors came to shop, dine, or simply soak in the lively atmosphere, the event promised something for everyone.
