Thanksgiving lands differently for everyone.
For some, it’s joyful.
For others, it’s complicated, heavy, or stressful.
Most people sit somewhere in the middle, carrying a blend of gratitude, longing, tension, and emotional overwhelm.
But here’s the truth no one really says out loud:
Holidays make wanting louder.
We want rest, comfort, connection, warmth, understanding, peace, clarity —
and sometimes, space.
None of this means something’s wrong.
Our wanting is information.
As I write in Healing The Wanting: Book One:
“When you finally listen to your wanting, it tells the truth you’ve been carrying for years.”
So today, instead of forcing cheer or pretending everything is fine, try a simple practice:
Find one thing — just one — that feels kind to your nervous system.
A warm drink.
A quiet corner.
A walk.
A deep breath outside.
A moment of stillness at the kitchen sink.
Real kindness counts more than forced gratitude.
Wherever this day finds you, may you feel a little more connected to what’s true for you — and a little more free to honor it.
