A Constant in an Era of Uncertainty

During this extraordinarily challenging time, I want to take a brief moment to say hello, offer support, and provide an update on steps we’re taking to empower and protect our Googlization Nation community.

First, I want to assure you that we are safe, sound, and healthy. We’ve been virtual and working remotely for over a decade so in that regard, business is normal. And because nearly all our services and products are digital, our supply chain is intact (as long as the Internet holds up!) But we realize that you and many of our clients and friends are not so fortunate. This is a new time for all of us, and as much as we can, we’d like to be your constant!

For those of you who are still working and hiring, we are here when you need us. For everyone else…if there is anything we can do to help, we’re no further away than an email, text, or phone call.

Ways We Hope To Help:

1. Offering a helping hand.

Many of you have stopped “going to work” and are now “working from home” for the first time. We’re here to help, especially if you work for a small business that was completely caught off guard. I’ve been using remote work technology tools and other resources for nearly 15 years. More recently (like the last two weeks), I’ve been compiling other resources for such things as how to work from home without childcare!  It’s not something I need personally but I know a lot of you do. Beginning this next week, I’ll be sending out regular updates and offering resources (mostly free) to help you (and employees) transition to a new office: working-from-home. If you’re not subscribed yet, make sure you join Googlization Nation.

2. Check-in with us anytime.

Working from home can get lonely – no more walking down the hall or meeting in the lunchroom with colleagues. It’s really important for all of us to have a place to go for inspiration or relief, even if only for 5 minutes – to socialize, vent (even about your spouse or kids), or just brainstorm an idea. Unfortunately, I can’t offer coffee or snacks, but I can do this. I’ve opened a Slack channel at https://bit.ly/CUontheflipside.  Think of it as your digital watercooler. Slack is free and really easy to use.  You can access it on your desktop and mobile devices too. I’ll be monitoring it for your messages and hopefully, we’ll soon have an active community to tap even more resources. Please invite your colleagues and co-workers. Post it on your social media too.  As Simon Sinek says, Together is Better.

3. Learn and UpSkill.

In this era of uncertainty, one thing is certain. We will exit this crisis, whenever that might be, into a very different world than the one from which we entered. It will feel weird and uncomfortable. Every job and role will be different going forward. Some will change a lot, some a little but with no doubt, the skills you’ll need to lead, manage, and work will be different on the flip side of Covid-19. To navigate that new world of work, we accelerated the launch of our eLearning library, complete with over 2,600-course titles. Now is the perfect time to brush up on old skills and learn new ones. To introduce our micro-learning library, we’re offering our 10 lesson Covid-19 Precautions and Pandemic Planning modules for free as well as a 15-day free trial for all 2,600 courses. Registration is easy. Just click here to get started.

4. FREE Livestream – Your Company Culture in the Age of Work-from-Home.

There’s nothing like a good crisis to test the vitality and resilience of your company’s culture and values. Tens of millions of employees who just a few weeks ago “went to work” now work from home. Company culture just entered a whole new era. What will your culture look like on the flip side of the pandemic? Is your culture build to last? What’s next for company culture? Who better to ask than Lina Graves,  CultureRevolutionzer and Chief Culture Officer of CultureConNext.  Join me and Lina on Tuesday, March 24 at 3 PM EDT. If we’re connected on LinkedIn, watch for the notification that we’re live or set reminders by watching on Facebook or YouTube.

5. Prepare Now.

We will get past this. While I expect the years of low unemployment might be behind us, I fully expect the competition for top talent to be exponentially fiercer. Many workers will not return to work as usual. Others might have secured other jobs. Ramping up will be challenging.  Rapid, accurate hiring will be a must. Now is the time to upgrade your candidates’ experience. Here’s the best part. Many of the improvements won’t cost you a dime – just learning a few new skills and upgrading your process. 6. Free Book.

Last but not least (hopefully), I’m still offering the 2nd Edition (Feb 2020) Recruiting in the Age of Googlization for FREE. Just go to https://join.googlizationnation.com. You’ll immediately receive a digital copy and get the hard copy in 5 to 7 business days.  Here’s an excerpt from my most recent review on Amazon:

Recruiting In The Age of Googlization by Ira Wolfe was an engrossing read for me. The viewpoint in the book expanded my understanding of the recruitment cycle as a complex constantly evolving process wherein we as recruiters are not just interacting with candidates to submit them to job orders and trying to meet revenue in terms of placements… Many aspects like data-driven HR policies, the power of videos in stating corporate vision and effective use of ATS that Ira has indicated in this book are actually playing a significant role in the recruitment arena today. I was so inspired by this book that I actually undertook a MOOC course on people-analytics!.

7. Please be safe.

Stay healthy. Practice social distancing.  And don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do.
