Many dieters are still looking to lose weight in a permanent and healthier way by increasing or reducing their calories intake. But, it hasn't been all that easy and simple and many dieters still wonder "How many calories should I eat to lose weight?"

1. In fact, there is a secret formula to help calculate weight loss. The only way you can successfully lose weight is to consume fewer calories than what you burn every day. Consequently, should you consume 2,000 calories per day and burn 2,500 calories on a daily basis, you will certainly lose weight.

2. But it will be unhealthy to think of cutting down on your calories intake or not consuming calories at all in your attempt to avoid having to burn many calories to lose weight. STOP considering this as a weight loss option. Besides being a very bad idea, such a thought does not focus on successful and healthy weight loss, but rather leads to starvation. What most dieters do not understand is that such weight loss programs make you weaker, hungrier, and eventually stimulate an uncontrollable and over-eating habit.

3. A 1999 New Zealand's University medical research has shown that our eating habit affects and do have an enormous impact on our weight. Further studies explain that the weight of the food we consume may play a more significant role than fat or calories in satisfying our hunger. This means that you don't necessary need to eat high-calorie or high-fat foods to be satiated, but your stomach has to feel the weight of a certain amount of food.

Moreover, it's been proven that we tend to consume the same weight of food daily, irrespective of the calories or fat that our foods contain. So logically, is as if your stomach possesses an internal scale with a pre-regulated weight that has to be attained for you to be satiated and not starving.

This suggestion may explain the reason behind having a bowl of soup or drinking a glass of water prior to taking your meal to reduce your hunger. This may also explain why dieters are able to undergo a low fat diet and still gain weight if the majority of their food selections emanate from starchy food, which is highly processed and low in fiber.

Eating high fiber foods, such as oatmeal helps you consume fewer calories without starving yourself. It is therefore advised that dieters consume high-fiber foods, such as wheat multi-grain bread instead of eating white bread. Why?

You may eat many slices of fluffy white bread before you feel satisfied, whilst consuming two slices of whole wheat multi-grain bread already makes you feel like you ate the whole loaf.

Never ever forbid calories from your meals; your body needs food and calories to get energy. That is why it is necessary to eat enough in order not to go hungry and be able to burn the calories you consume now and after wards.

Conversely, if you burn out the exact same amount of calories you consume your weight is likely to remain the same.

Remember; the more fat a food contains the more calories it will have, because fat contains nine calories per gram compared to four calories per gram for carbohydrates or protein.
