MJ Golf Classic Brings The CureSearch Walk to Texas Motor Speedway

Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas – Ten years ago, Paul "Mo" Moline and Jim Round organized a golf tournament benefiting a cancer charity. Today, their MJ Golf Classic has become a three-day event of golfing competitions and activities for all. This year the Dallas-based friends have designated CureSearch for Children's Cancer as the event's beneficiary, and they are bringing the The CureSearch Walk to the region for the first time.

"Today, 40,000 children under the age of 15 are undergoing treatment for cancer," said John L. Lehr, President and CEO, CureSearch for Children's Cancer. "Only research can cure children's cancer, and to fund that research, we need generous partners like Paul Moline and Jim Round of the MJ Golf Classic."

CureSearch funds the lifesaving research of the Children's Oncology Group, doctors and nurses who treat more than 90 percent of children with cancer across the country, including those at Cook Children's Medical Center, Medical City Children's Hospital and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

The CureSearch Walk, held in multiple markets nationwide, comes to the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the first time to celebrate and honor all those whose lives have been affected by cancer:

"Since we started the MJ Golf Classic 10 years ago, we have raised nearly $2.5 million to conquer cancer," said Moline. "We are committed to helping the children who are impacted from this terrible disease."

"This year we have chosen to partner with CureSearch for Children's Cancer to help fund their lifesaving research efforts," said Round. "We invite everyone to come out to the Texas Motor Speedway on May 22 to walk with us in support of this great cause."

Cancer is the No. 1 cause of death by disease in children in the United States. Every day, 35 children are diagnosed with cancer. One child out of five who is diagnosed with cancer dies; and three out of five who survive cancer suffer devastating, long-term side effects. During the past 20 years, research has increased the cure rate for children's cancer by 30 percent. Today, the cure rate is 78 percent overall. CureSearch aims for a 100 percent cure rate.

Beyond the golf tournament and The CureSearch Walk, events at the MJ Golf Classic also include the Texas Driving Experience Thrill Rides; Silent Auction; and a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament.
