Sue Lowden and John Snyder in Las Vegas, Nevada
Gun rights expert John M. Snyder met recently in Las Vegas, Nevada with conservative activists to assess the political situation in the Silver State.

Among the conferees was former Nevada State Senator Sue Lowden, a leading contender in next year's United States senatorial contest. A high resolution image of the meeting, shown above, may be obtained on request.

Shotgun News last year named Snyder the senior rights activist in Washington.

While in Nevada, Snyder announced that a special award was going to Nevada's senior Senator, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. "The two-faced Janus Award is going to Reid in recognition of his ambivalent commitment to the rights of law-abiding firearm owners," said Snyder.

The mock award is named for the two-faced ancient Roman god Janus. "Harry's hypocrisy makes him an obvious candidate for this distinction" said Snyder.

"On the one hand," he explained, "Reid cites his Senate votes for pro-gun legislative initiatives as evidence of his commitment to Second Amendment rights. On the other hand, his active and successful shepherding through the Senate of the nominations of Eric Holder as Attorney General, Sonia Sotomayor as Supreme Court Justice, and Cass Sunstein as Director of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs demonstrates his long range support for those opposed to Nevadans' and all Americans' gun rights."

Snyder pointed out that Holder advocates reinstitution of the failed Clinton-era ban on semiautomatic firearms. He noted also that Sotomayor during her confirmation hearings stated she did not know if an individual has a right to self-defense. He said Sunstein has written that animals should be able to sue hunters and other Americans.

"Holder, Sotomayor and Sunstein all were nominated by President Barack Hussein Obama," said Snyder. "Nevada's senior Senator ushered them through Capitol Hill like a good Obama lapdog. According to Rasmussen Reports on voter attitudes, Obama's approval ratings have been taking a real nosedive, even hitting a low this week of MINUS 13. Maybe Reid's will, too."

A former National Rifle Association editor, Snyder is Public Affairs Director of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
