If It Hurts, Stop Doing It. That Will Be $50,000.
i am not loathe to admit that the great preponderance of my success has been based on common sense. It’s a rare commodity. Look back over the last year and ask yourself if the government and scientists have used much common sense.
I’ve told executives to fire people who have become impossible to deal with because that person will be better off. Stop worrying about being loved or about how people speak of you. Do what’s right for the other person who is now a pariah and completely unproductive.
Executives have reacted with surprise and then enthusiasm when I’ve told them that finding blame is not the same as finding cause, and merely scapegoating someone does nothing to resolve the problem. People say, “It’s that idiot Harry’s fault, not let’s move on.” The problem remains, which means it wasn’t Harry at all.
I focus on results and work backwards, not my methodology and work forwards. My “methodology” is constantly adjusting, focusing on gaining the results in fastest time at the least cost to the client. Not least fee, least cost.
Imagine if our politicians just used common sense. Would we be taking Abraham Lincoln’s name off of buildings and trying to reduce police funding while we watch crime escalate? Wouldn’t we abandon online learning in schools, which simply doesn’t work?
Utilizing common sense means giving the other person the benefit of the doubt and not assuming that only you have common sense and they do not.
