Judge Herbert Christenberry held three days of hearings regarding Garrison's two counts of perjury against Clay Shaw. Ultimately, in May 1971, he provided a permanent injunction against Garrison. Here is a letter that Clay Shaw wrote to Elmer Gertz, who was representing Gordon Novel in his libel suit against Jim Garrison:
