Washington Behavior on Economic Stimulus, Gun Control and Other Issues Sparking Massive Political Reaction

By John Michael Snyder

Washington action on appointments is inept. Its approach to several public issues is obtuse. This causes general public opposition to the political establishment.

?Porky? Schumer, ?Screwed Up? Obama and company are far out of touch with people. They?re sparking a massive political reaction.

Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York said the other day that ?the American people really don?t care? for the ?porky amendments? in the stimulus bill. He showed how far out of touch he is with the public.

Support for legislation promoted by Schumer and President Barack Obama and other politicians declined as people came to realize how much pork there is in it. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, only 37 approve the bill and 43 percent oppose it.

Obama?s public approval has dropped by about 25 percent since his inauguration.

In less than a month after taking office at least three top appointees of the Obama administration ran into difficulty over non-payment of taxes. Two bowed out.

A third became Secretary of the Treasury in charge of enforcing U.S. tax laws! After one of his appointees threw in the towel, Obama admitted he ?screwed up.?

Yet another cabinet nominee just announced he?s withdrawing for ideological reasons.

Investors are upset with Washington nonsense. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said there would be strong action to stimulate credit again in our faltering economy. However, ?the lack of detail in his much-anticipated speech helped drive stocks down nearly five percent? in one day, reported The Wall Street Journal.

Another appointee, Eric H. Holder, Jr., became Attorney General despite serious questions over his handling of an eleventh hour pardon granted an international fugitive from justice by former President Bill Clinton on his last day in office. Observers also question Holder?s role in Clinton?s commutation of terrorists? sentences.

Right to life advocates oppose some legislative proposals. Church leaders ask co-religionists to oppose legislation that would overturn laws protecting parental involvement and conscience rights and those preventing partial-birth abortion and taxpayer funding of abortion. Only nine percent of the people support such legislation, according to a Gallup poll.

Many of the estimated 90 million law-abiding firearm owners in the United States actively oppose repressive policies being considered in Washington. Sales of firearms soar throughout the country. Though FBI estimates show there are 200 million privately owned shotguns, handgun and rifles in the United States, citizens are buying more and more of them.

Politicians promote additional regulations of gun shows and re-imposition, extension and making permanent of a ban on sales of certain semiautomatic firearms which expired five years ago. Citizens respond by buying more and more guns and ammunition.

Data from the FBI?s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) show background checks on the sale of firearms jumped 28.8 percent last month when compared to January 2008, reports the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The increase follows a 24 percent rise in December and a 42 percent rise in November, when a record 1,529,635 background checks were performed.

Firearm owners oppose Washington attempts to interfere with their right to keep and bear arms, with their right to the means necessary for defending their lives and the lives of their loved ones, with their right to life itself. They consider the possibility of having to defend themselves and their families from murderous attacks by militant Islamist terrorists.

Many disparate groups of people are fed up with Washington. A continuation and expansion of its ineptness and repressive legislative ideas will transform concern into outrage, stimulate a reaction of civil disobedience, and lead to a political revolution

It?ll be hasta la vista for Washington?s political establishment!
