The moment the Associated Press made the call on Nov. 7 that Joe Biden had secured the electoral votes to win the 2020 presidential contest, Georgetown along with the rest of America began waving from streateries, honking their horns from convertibles and jeeps — shouting Biden’s name and that of running mate Kamala Harris. Down Pennsylvania Avenue was the place to go — near the White House, 16th and 17th Streets, Black Lives Matter Plaza, St. John’s Church Lafayette Square. (President Donald J. Trump was not at home but golfing in Virginia. Sounds like a plan. Most of the signs and sentiment voiced were mean to the 45th president.)
There was pure joy on the streets and sidewalks — something not seen for many years. Apparently, the same feeling moved across America. The Georgetowner offers a few images from this afternoon. (More to come, no doubt.)
