October 5, 2006 Announcement
Hoboken, NJ (September 27, 2006)
New Jersey?s largest film festival is coming to Hoboken! On Thursday, October 5, at 2:00 p.m., the City of Hoboken will be announcing the arrival of the Hoboken International Film Festival (formerly New Jersey International Film & Screenplay Festival). The announcement will be made at Hoboken City Hall, located at 94 Washington Street located between Newark and Washington Streets.
?We are thrilled to have Hoboken host such an exciting event,? says Hoboken Mayor David Roberts. ?To have such an important film event in our wonderful city is just another addition to our cultural offerings.?
Showcasing the best in independent filmmaking from around the world, Hoboken International Film Festival features a celebrity jury including Academy Award and Emmy winners. Winning filmmakers will receive cash prizes in several categories. Joining Mayor Roberts at the press conference will be festival chairman, Kenneth Del Vecchio, a critically acclaimed filmmaker, best-selling author and New Jersey attorney. Del Vecchio, a native of Hudson County, is also the East Coast Acquisitions Director of Echelon Studios?he will be announcing a special Grand Prize for this year?s ?Best Feature Film? and another major prize for all officially selected films.
Every year the festival honors a star Hollywood actor with the Lifetime Achievement Award. The star personally appears at the festival?s Gala Awards Ceremony?which has been recognized as one of the best festival awards ceremonies in the country. This year?s honoree will be a legendary Hollywood actor who is a multiple Academy Award, Golden Globe, Tony Award and Emmy winner and nominee, who will be announced on October 5, with many more exciting details about the 2007 festival.
?This is a great opportunity for the City of Hoboken, its residents and the film festival,? said Hoboken Film Liaison, Captain Anthony Falco. ?It?s the joining of New Jersey?s cultural capital with one of the state?s greatest artistic events. I witnessed, first-hand, the enormity of a film festival chaired by Mr. Del Vecchio. Thousands of filmmakers, from dozens of countries and from nearly every state, submitted to the festival. Only the best were admitted, less than five-percent. Many had their premieres at the festival. "
"Hoboken has always had such a rich Film history,? said Geri Fallo, Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of Hoboken. "Academy award winning films like On the Waterfront were filmed here and filmmaker John Sayles lived here for many years. With its proximity to Manhattan, moving the festival to Hoboken will make it an even more spectacular event."
