Why You Should Become an Internet Pundit in 2009

There is an opportunity that the Internet provides to anyone in the business community that goes beyond having one's own blog, says Alan Caruba, a veteran public relations counselor. "There are an estimated 55 million blogs and more coming online every day. That's a big jungle in which to be found, although I do recommend having one"
There is, however, another venue. "You can become a pundit," says Caruba who has been one himself for a long time and recommends it to others. "The good news is that, while you concentrate on building your business, there's professional help to enhance your reputation when you offer commentaries on current events and issues to Internet news and opinion websites and blogs" Caruba's weekly column, posted on his website for The National Anxiety Center, is also disseminated to some thirty or more politically conservative websites and from there is frequently picked up and shared on various blogs and even occasionally as Facebook entries. Some sites like Zimbo.com exist to let you post your commentaries. In 1990, Caruba founded the Center as a clearinghouse for information about "scare campaigns designed to influence public opinion and policy" He was an early debunker of global warming claims and wanted to have a platform independent of his clients. "Writing commentaries requires the skills of a journalist," says Caruba. "They must be carefully documented and, for those untrained in this craft, it's wise to use someone who is. Your commentary can be entirely the product of the writer you choose or can, through review, incorporate your input, depending on how much time you have to devote" Even with the tools available, it is difficult to know how many people read one's commentaries, says Caruba, but if your work is picked up on larger news and opinion websites it can easily reach an audience of millions. They can be posted as well on a company website or one's personal blog. Caruba's blog posts are a daily part of the content of CanadaFreePress.com and thus reach an international audience of readers because it is a popular news and opinion website visited by people around the world. "Letting website editors know they can share your blog posts is another way of expanding your readership" What if you just don't have the time to write a monthly commentary or more frequently than that? "I ghost columns for some business leaders and it is a very rewarding experience for them as they see their names associated with a well-crafted opinion piece, something timely and of interest" That's one of the secrets of becoming a pundit. You can find an established pundit like Caruba who will bring his expertise and knowledge to the table in order to help you enhance your own reputation.
