This Thanksgiving, those with faithful mates have much to be thankful for.
This Thanksgiving, those with faithful mates have much to be thankful for.

With infidelity now affecting 80% of all relationships, this Thanksgiving, anyone with a faithful mate has a lot to be thankful for

"This Thanksgiving, anyone with a faithful mate has a lot to be thankful for," says infidelity expert Ruth Houston, founder of InfidelityAdvice.com. "With infidelity now at epidemic proportions, faithful mates are in short supply. Infidelity in one form or another (emotional infidelity, internet infidelity, same sex infidelity, workplace infidelity, female infidelity) now affects 80% of all marriages and committed relationships today. Those whose mates are not having an affair, have much to be thankful for."

NOTE: See Houston's article on the National Infidelity Examiner page at Examiner.com entitled 15 Reasons for a Wife to Be Thankful if She Has a Faithful Mate.

According to Statistics, Most Spouses Cheat

Houston, who is frequently called on by the media to comment on popular infidelity issues in the news, cites statistics from several infidelity studies below:

• 55% to 75% of men (married and single) cheat on their mates.

• female infidelity has increased 50% in the past 10 years and is fast approaching the rate of male infidelity.

• 45-55% of married women and 50-60% of married men engage in extramarital sex at some point during their marriage

• 60% of the people in one study, who admitted to cheating on their mate, said their partner did not know about their affair.

False Assumptions About Having a Faithful Mate

Says Houston, "Most people in a relationship automatically assume that their partner is faithful. But statistics clearly indicate that only a few spouses and significant others can truthfully make that claim. People who honor their commitment or their marriage vows have become the exception, rather than the rule."

Houston continues, "In one study, 70% of married women and 54% of married men whose spouses were cheating on them had no idea their marriage mate was having an extramarital affair.

Still the Last to Know

As the author of a popular book on how to spot the signs of infidelity (Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs), what Houston finds most disturbing are the studies which indicate that most infidelity victims have no idea their spouse is having an affair.

Houston says, "It's unfortunate that in this day and age, the betrayed spouse is still the last to know because cheaters ALWAYS leave telltale signs behind. I attribute this to a failure to recognize the telltale signs. Knowing what to look for is the key.

Most cheaters will cover up the obvious signs of infidelity; which means that a person who is unfamiliar with the many subtle signs of infidelity will always be the last to know."

So if you know your partner is faithful, give thanks. Faithful mates are few and far between.
