Privacy Diary, a new blog contains commentaries about identity theft, privacy and information security. Author, expert Joe Campana is now blogging to journal his professional experiences, which are the basis for articles that appear in the forum--thus the name Privacy Diary.

The blog articles are written to appeal to small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) including businesses, not-for-profits, local government, schools, and their management.

Blogger Joe Campana shares useful tips and lessons that SMEs, such as small businesses, can put to use immediately to avoid risks. Some articles take the form of case studies while others review principles of best practices and risk management. Although there are a number of privacy and information security Web sites and directories, most are oriented towards large enterprises or specialists. Few, if any, focus on SMEs.

There is an underlying assumption that one size fits all when it comes to applying privacy and information security best practices. However, SMEs cannot afford the complexities of large enterprise privacy and information security solutions or highly technical and costly approaches.

Many forums consist of multinational corporate attorneys and government bureaucrats espousing security solutions appropriate for behemoths. Because of the discouraging complexities and high investment for large enterprise solutions, SMEs may do little or nothing to protect data. This leaves them highly vulnerable to security risks and the consequential financial and non-financial liabilities associated with business identity theft and privacy and information security breaches.

Customers and employees of SMEs often bear a significant risk by entrusting sensitive information with an organization that does not have reasonable and appropriate safeguards in place.

"We're taking privacy and information security from Wall Street to Main Street," said Campana. "This blog as well as our consulting and publications focus on providing easy to understand fundamental information that is useful for smaller organizations. For example, Privacy MakeOver: The Essential Guide to Best Practices http://www.PrivacyMakeOver.com) is the first do-it-yourself guide for small businesses. Our "Main Street" focus is what differentiates our approach and services from others"
