PR Expert Enjoys New Career as a Commentator

South Orange, NJ – With four decades as a public relations counselor to his credit, Alan Caruba has since embarked on a second successful career as an Internet commentator whose writings are read by millions of visitors to the Web every week.

Caruba, who began his professional life as a journalist and still retains membership in the leading journalism associations, says his transition to public relations in the 1970s "was motivated by wanting to earn more, but I soon discovered that PR was just the flip side of the journalism coin because both required the same essential ingredient, the truth" He also concluded that "there are too many people telling too many lies and the role of the PR counselor is to help those being victimized by junk science and false claims"

As a weekly commentator whose work appears on the website of The National Anxiety Center (www.anxietycenter.com), he disseminates his columns to a large selection of center-right news and opinion websites and blogs. Caruba created the Center in 1990 as a clearinghouse for information about scare campaigns intended to influence public opinion and policy.

A commentary in response to Earth Day had, by Wednesday, been posted on or linked to by more than fifty websites and blogs. "I calculate that several million people have had an opportunity to read my column," said Caruba, "and if my email is any indicator, most found themselves in agreement with it"

Years spent working with a cross-section of industrial and agricultural corporations and interests gave Caruba a particular insight regarding the way modern technology has proven beneficial to Americans and others around the world. "Now I see my job as a commentator to connect the dots of a highly complex society and world so people can understand how banning pesticides or converting food crops into fuel ends up needlessly killing people who die from diseases like malaria or cause food shortages around the world"

"I find myself working with corporations, trade associations, timber, farming and ranching groups who have been blindsided by claims that they are harming humanity or the Earth when, invariably, the truth is they are heart and soul of the nation's economy and providing the products and services that enhance everyone's life," said Caruba.

At age 70, Caruba is semi-retired, representing a select group of clients, but his fun these days it putting his experience and knowledge to work every week as a commentator whose work helps explain the often complex way the nation and the world is related to events.

When not writing his weekly columns, he is an enthusiastic blogger at http://factsnotfantasy.blogspot.com/,

"The Internet is transforming the world and people's lives by providing information that too often does not appear in the mainstream media available to anyone who wants to understand things like rising gas and food prices, events in the Middle East, and other hot button topics"

The longtime New Jersey resident admits he is enjoying life these days. "I have come full circle from being a journalist in the 1970s to being a commentator able to reach out to millions via the Internet"
