Marshall and Humphreys at Hamrick Lectures -FBC

Dr. Molly Marshall, president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary, and Josephine Humphreys, renowned novelist, are the featured speakers for the 15th Annual John Hamrick Lectureship at First Baptist Church of Charleston, SC on January 17 and 18, 2010.
Dr Marshall, who spoke at the Lectureship in1998, is the author of numerous books including; Joining the Dance; A Theology of the Spirit, What It Means To Be Human, and No Salvation Outside the Church? She is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and holds Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. She has completed further study in Jerusalem, Cambridge and Princeton. Prior to her tenure at Central Seminary, she was an Associate Professor of theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Marshall recently served as president of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion and as editor of NAPR Dissertation Series. She has served churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Kentucky. She will speak at 6:30 p.m.on Sunday, January 17 and again at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 18. Josephine Humphreys is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She won the 1985 Hemingway Award for a first work of fiction. Her book, Rich in Love, was turned into a motion picture. She has also authored Nowhere Else on Earth, Fireman's Fair, and Dreams of Sleep. She is a sought after speaker and teacher at numerous writing workshops. Ms. Humphreys taught in the English Department of Charleston Southern University. She will speak on her,"Charleston Connection," at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 18. The Hamrick Lectures were established to honor the life and work of Dr. John A. Hamrick, pastor of First Baptist Church of Charleston for 29 years and the founding president of what is now Charleston Southern University. The lectures are free and the public is invited. First Baptist Church is located at 61 Church Street and the parking lot is at 48 Meeting Street directly from the Richard Russell House in the historic district. Mitch Carnell Ph.D.
