Believe it or not, student credit card debt isn't the end of the world: you can overcome this not so little problem
Every year, student credit card debt bankrupts people, leaving them destitute and with a ruined credit score for years to come. Why is student debt so easy to accumulate and so impossible to get rid of? The future looks really bleak when you approach it this way, but fortunately that's not the end of the story. There are great ways to get rid of student credit card debt -- or prevent it from accumulating in the first place. Know thy enemy Your most basic weapon against student credit card debt, or any debt for that matter, is information. If you have the knowledge, you're already a step ahead of your creditors, who expect you to be either un or misinformed. So learn everything you can. Where can you get information? All sorts of places! Banks, financial advisors, books, and the Internet all provide great information. I make a point of visiting Credit Card Whiz Kid, a great site on up to date credit card info, on a weekly basis. Spend responsibly -- and save responsibly, too Your savings won't amount to much if you have a huge pile of student credit card debt accumulating interest. For that reason, it's better to pay off that debt as fast as you can and worry about saving money later. That might sound counterintuitive, but you can always get credit in an emergency if you have a good credit rating. On the other hand, you're unlikely to pay for a house with cash down. Your savings won't help you much in that situation, but a good credit score will. Obviously, the best solution is prevention: control your spending, create a budget (and stick to it), and limit temptation where your credit card is concerned. Whether you're a student trying to prevent accumulating debt or someone dealing with a past history of credit card problems, these strategies will help you avoid further debt and repay your loans faster. Even though student credit card debt can be difficult to manage, it's not the end of the world if you follow these tips! Sean Masterson
