Chinese Dog & Cat Meat Ban Combats Animal Abuse
Atlanta, GA
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
Dog meat, a treasured delicacy to some, may no longer be on the menu in China. Chinese legal specialists have drafted a bill that if passed would ban the consumption of dog and cat meat. The bill is an indicator that Chinese attitudes towards domestic pets have shifted, especially among the wealthy who wiil go as far to buy their canines large dog beds and dog tracking collars. The proposed bill is aimed at combatting animal abuse. In China, dogs and cats can be found at meat markets, hung and butchered before a purchasers eyes. Many butchers reportedly beat the animals to death or cook the animals alive in order to produce a more desirable flavor. Chinese animal activist groups have materialized and protested the questionable practices. However, most are skeptical that such a bill would actually pass. Many restaurants and butchers would lose their livelihood. Some citizens believe the bill was presented as an attempt to appease western nations and businesses or that the government should focus on human welfare before animals. The drafted bills will be reviewed in April 2010. ### Pet-Super-Store.com Copyright © 2006-2010 is an online pet supply store that offers thousands of boutique pet accessories and high-end dog products, all at the guaranteed lowest prices.
