Fargo, ND

Carol Bradley Bursack, Author, Speaker, Blogger and Columnist
Caregiver support expert Carol Bradley Bursack of Minding Our Elders was honored to be one of the people invited to the pre-launch interview of Medicare's promising caregiver site, Ask Medicare.
The site kick-off got the ball rolling to promote www.medicare.gov/caregivers, a site that will help family caregivers make sense of the Medicare system. "Finally some help and recognition for the importance of the caregiving role is coming from Medicare," Bursack said. "They even recognize the importance of training medical personnel to include the family caregiver as an integral part of the elder care team. This is huge progress. Our quick-paced medical system often overlooks the most obvious source of information – the family caregiver. Kerry Weems, acting administrator of CMA (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) has firsthand knowledge of family caregiving. I believe that is a huge bonus," she continued. Bursack's Web site at www.mindingourelders.com and award winning blog at www.mindingoureldersblogs.com are designed to give caregivers, boomers and seniors support with shared experiences, resources, stories, advice, news and up-to-date research. These sites now include direct links to the new Medicare caregiver's site. Minding Our Elders continues to grow and attract caregivers seeking information and support on their caregiving journey. Bursack is a featured blogger on www.ouralzheimers.com and a regular contributor, as well as forum moderator, for www.agingcare.com. Over the span of two decades, Bursack cared for six family members and a neighbor. She is the author of "Minding Our Elders: Caregivers Share Their Personal Stories." The book is used as a college text for gerontology and nursing home administration classes. Her newspaper elder care column, "Minding Our Elders," runs weekly in print and on-line. Bursack has been interviewed on dozens of national radio shows, including Mr. Eldercare, Today's Author, The Ron Ross Show and The Parent Care Show. Bursack is a member of AARP, Children of Aging Parents, the National Caregivers Advisory Panel and the National Family Caregivers Association. As an expert in her field, she is included in Montclair's Who's Who in Health and has written hundreds of articles for national publications. Bursack is also a contributing author to The Media Librarian's Handbook, to be published by Facet Publishing (UK) in 2008. Carol Bradley Bursack
