Businesses Host First Annual Pizza Relay
Punxsutawney, PA
Wednesday, July 09, 2008
Punxsutawney, PA – July, 12 2008 – Think you can run (or walk) a relay race while stuffing a slice of pizza in your mouth? Jim Dunlap of JD's Diamond Training and Scott Anthony of Fox's Pizza Den think it can be done. Dunlap, a cancer survivor and relay team captain adds, 'This is a great way to have fun while helping others and to celebrate survivorship.'
The two businessmen in conjunction with the Jefferson County Relay for Life will be holding a Pizza Eating Relay Contest at the Relay For Life in Barclay Square on July 12, 2008. Five teams of four adults will walk or run a relay race of 4/10 mile while eating a slice of pizza. Contestants will have to completely eat a slice before they can hand off the pizza (baton) to the next team mate. The inspiration came from World Pizza Champion, Michael Shepherd, who works with the Hardin County, Ohio Relay For Life. Anthony stated "I thought this would be a perfect fit for Punxsutawney" Anthony later learned that his own mother, Cecelia Anthony (pictured here), had been diagnosed with the disease. She commented that 'it is a good thing to raise money to find a cure for this disease.' Circumstances prevent Mrs. Anthony from attending this year's event. "My mom's battle with cancer makes this event all the more meaningful", adds Anthony. The race begins at groundhog Zoo at 4 pm. This year's teams are five different groups of Punxsutawney's first responders competing to see not only who is the fastest but who can raise the most money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest team and those who raised the most money for cancer research. ~END~ Scott Anthony
