Beyonce Wins Caregiver Hero Award for Sharing Her Spotlight

Caregivers step out of the metaphorical spotlight so their loved ones' wants and needs can take center stage. This is no metaphor for Beyonce. Her gracious act of literally sharing her spotlight with Taylor Swift is recognized with the Caregiver Club Hero Award.

For those of you caregivers who are so busy you didn't get any contact with the outside world this week, here's the story. Taylor Swift was on the stage accepting an MTV Video Music Award when her speech was interrupted by Kanye West—who voiced his opinion that the award should have gone to Beyonce.

Later in the show, Beyonce went to the stage to accept her own award for Video of the Year. The 28-year-old said, "Thank you. I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV Award with Destiny's Child and it was one of the most exciting moments in my life. So I'd like Taylor to come out and have her moment."  Beyonce and Taylor shared several warm embraces.

In the following days, the news was filled with Kanye and Taylor. Kanye offered Taylor an apology, which Taylor accepted. As with so many acts of caregiving, Beyonce's role in this drama didn't make it to most conversations about the episode.

Beyonce's generosity did not go unnoticed in caregiving circles. She offers a shining example about what caregivers know to be true: when caregivers step out of the limelight, they can shine even more brightly.
