Los Angeles, CA—Following his overarching history book about European World War II, History Leading to 50th Anniversary of D-Day, Book 2, Michael B. Butler has taken a different direction and published a 400 page, large format book dominated by photographs, created by Germans, about the world shocking 1940 Western European Blitzkrieg Campaign.

German 1940 War Campaign Pictorials from Heinrich Hoffman, Erwin Rommel, Combat Cameramen & Propagandists, the first in a series, contains not only hundreds of photographs but plenty of detailed text that puts the events in perspective. Drawing on materials from Walter Walimont's Inside Hitler's Headquarters, 1941-45 and The Rommel Papers, the publication, which debuted at #1 on Amazon in Military History Pictorials, offers a fascinating look at the key events of 1940 which set the tone for the entire war and beyond.

Looking back, readers often lose the fact of just how incredibly earth shaking the German campaign in the West truly was; only 25 years earlier these same countries fought over yards during four-years of body and nation consuming warfare. And then Hitler and his famous German General Staff rolled up the more powerful armies in weeks through innovative mobile armored combined operations that crushed the Allies.

About the Book: When World War Two ended in Europe, the U.S. Army and various intelligence agencies collected reams of evidence relating to the conduct of the war. A large number of photographs became property of the U.S. government and then the U.S. National Archives. This publication was created from those collections.

There are two main sources: The December 1940 book, With Hitler in the West, created by Hitler's personal photographer, Heinrich Hoffman, and published by Joseph Goebbels, the infamous Third Reich propaganda chief. Photos taken by then Major General Erwin Rommel or those on campaign with the new commander of the 7th Panzer Division. Outfitted with a Leica camera, Rommel was an avid photographer as well as a frontline commander.
