Omekongo "The UPstander" Dibinga

Omekongo "The UPstander' Dibinga has joined the Board of Directors of The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation. The Mattie J.T. Stepanek Foundation is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, created in 2005 to continue the work of the late teen poet and peace activist, Mattie J.T. Stepanek. During Mattie's 'almost 14 years' of life, he penned seven NY Times bestselling books of Heartsongs poetry and peace essays, and served as an ambassador for many peace- and disability-related organizations. Mattie died in 2004 due to complications of a rare neuromuscular disease. Read more about Mattie's life and legacy.

Says Omekongo: "I am honored to be joining the Mattie Stepanek Foundation. Mattie was a hero of mine and I want to be like him when I grow up. He passed way before his time and was ahead of his time. Every waking day, we are reminded on why we need more peace in this world. I will do my best to honor his legacy every day that I can."

Omekongo is the UPstander. He is an award-winning artist who uses his skills as a speaker, poet, and musician to inspire positive change across the globe. His work has been televised in over 150 countries. He was selected by CNN as one of 5 people out of 750,000 to receive the first ever "iReport Spirit Award" for his video commentary.
