1. Launch a Book Without a Publicist

I can't count the number of self-published authors who call, asking me to recommend a good publicist to help them promote their new books.

"What's your budget for publicity?" I ask.

"About $300," is a frequent reply.

That will barely buy one professionally written press release. Unless they have at least $5,000 at the bare minimum, I won't part with my cherished list of contacts.

Book publicist Penny Sansevieri gets those calls, too.

When I was in San Diego a few months ago, we had coffee, and we lamented the fact that too few authors know how much a publicity campaign costs, or how to do it themselves.

We threw around these ideas:

--Instead of trying to get their books reviewed in USA Today and the Wall Street Journal, they should be pitching their local publications.

--Forget about pitching "Good Morning, America" or "Fox & Friends" where competition is fierce. They should be pitching bloggers who write for the authors' ideal readers.

--This time of year, any author who isn't tapping into lucrative holiday book sales is leaving money on the table.

--And oh, those keywords! Most authors don't realize there's gold in the right keywords--at their websites, in the press releases announcing their new books, and in guest blog posts and articles they write.

Authors, you can do this!

Join Penny and me for a two-hour webinar from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, Dec. 6. We'll show you "How to Launch a Book, Promote It and Sell a Truckload--Without an Expensive Publicist."

The huge package of bonuses will help you with keywords, writing your author bio, selling books on Pinterest, writing a compelling press release, and knowing what to do if your book really takes off and a major publisher comes knocking.

You'll get all the bonuses after the webinar, so you aren't overwhelmed. You can concentrate on Penny's advice and then come away knowing exactly how to use the free resources.

2. Webinar Hosts Don't Need a Cart

If you want to host paid webinars but you don't want to buy an expensive shopping cart, or any shopping cart, no problem.

You can still host them, as long as you have a PayPal account.

It's a bit of a hassle, especially if you have a lot of people registering. But GotoWebinar makes it possible to host paid webinars and manually approve a registration after the money has been sent to your PayPal account.

I'm going to explain the step-by-step process during the two-part webinar series on "How to Host Webinars and Sell Them as Profitable Products" from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow, Nov. 28, and Thursday, Nov. 29.

If you have a shopping cart, all the better. You can upsell webinar registrants to other products, send autoresponder messages after your training session, and use the shopping cart to gather testimonials from happy participants.

You'll learn how to get started using GotoWebinar and 1ShoppingCart, though any good shopping cart is OK.

You'll probably recoup your registration fee after your first paid webinar, and you'll create a new income stream that you can count on almost forever. Register here

Time inconvenient? Sign up anyway. You'll get the video replay and all the bonuses.

3. 25 Social Media Tips

Think you know social media pretty well?

I thought I did, until I read these "25 lesser known social media tips for work and play" by Quinton O'Reilly in Ragan's PR Daily. Some real gems here.

4. Hound Photos of the Week

Nothing says "Life is great" better than 50 photos of Basset Hounds running. Take a look.
