If you are overweight, it is not your fault.

And if you are carrying too much weight, you are not alone — it is one of  our nation’s biggest health issues.

According to World Population Review, over one in three adults in the United States is obese. Two out of three US adults are overweight

If you are struggling with weight control, it’s normal to feel totally frustrated and defeated. Sixty-five percent of dieters return to their pre-diet weight within three years.

But don’t blame yourself — it’s not your fault. It’s not due to weakness or lack of willpower or not wanting to put in the work to lose weight. Ten years ago the American Medical association (AMA) finally figured out that obesity was a complex, chronic disease that requires medical attention.

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to treat myself if I had a complex, chronic disease that requires medical attention. And weight control gets even more challenging for women as they transition into and through perimenopause and menopause.

The good news is that medical weight management has evolved. There is now a board certified specialty trained to treat people struggling with their weight. The American Board of Obesity Medicine has trained healthcare professionals with proven medical treatments for obesity or being overweight.

As you may know, I am the founding editor of The Hot Years, a quarterly magazine that’s all about perimenopause and menopause. It provides holistic, easy to understand and actionable information for midlife women so they are healthier, happier and more productive.

The last issue of HotYearsMag.com features Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, MD, one of the nation’s leading weight management experts. She discusses the scope of the problem and effective treatments. But most importantly, she emphasizes that weight is not your fault.

Weight management is so important that we dedicated the entire issue to this topic. And we want you to have it at no cost. It’s our gift to you.
