New Studies Show Employees Are More Dissatisfied Than Ever

Business Expert Says It's Not the Company's Fault

Minneapolis, MN (January 6, 2010) – Americans are growing more disenchanted with their jobs. A new survey covered by the Associated Press indicates that only 45% of Americans are satisfied with their work. This is the lowest level recorded by the Conference Board research group in over 22 years. Workers have grown steadily unhappier due to fear about job stability, incomes not keeping up with inflation, and workers not finding their jobs interesting. According to business expert Roxanne Emmerich, the problem is not the company itself, but the attitude and actions of the individuals within it.

Roxanne, a 20-year management and workplace consultant and bestselling author of Thank God It's Monday!: How to Create a Workplace You and Your Customers Love, uses her Thank God It's Monday approach to transform workplace culture within one day. According to Roxanne as she was recently quoted in the L.A. Times, "Employers have to get better at eliminating the energy vampires that are sucking everyone dry and understand that what makes work fun for people is being highly productive and successful, and that's a lost art for a lot of companies -- showing employees how to win." Her approach is based upon the concept that leadership is not a position, it's a way of being, and anyone can turn around employee satisfaction within a company.

In addition to the impact on office morale, there are also financial implications at play when it comes to unhappy employees: Gallup estimates that one out of every three payroll dollars is lost due to "disengaged employees" – one of the primary symptoms of dysfunction. With employee dissatisfaction at the root of huge tangible and intangible destruction, it is time for both employers and employees to take responsibility in creating a positive workplace environment.
