In Trail Mix, a city planner joins a women's hiking meetup to get outside more and start living a life that feels like her own again. She is paired with the group's most experienced hiker, a quiet woman who knows the trails better than anyone but talks to almost no one. Their route turns out to be a lot harder than advertised, and when a fallen trail sign sends them the wrong way, the two of them end up completely lost together for three hours.
What starts as a scramble to find the way back turns into something neither woman saw coming. Out where there is no signal, no schedule, and no one else to perform for, the walls both of them have been carrying start to come down.
Trail Mix continues the Quick Connections series, which launched with Pace Yourself, the story of a nurse and a firefighter who meet through a running club. Each book in the series is a standalone short read, written to be finished in about an hour, and each one is built around a different way LGBTQ women are finding community and connection today, through hiking groups, running clubs, book clubs, and other shared activities instead of bars.
