I have been teaching a lot of National Park Service Interns lately on Federal Resume Writing and Behavior-Based interview Practice and Preparation.

One of the big features of the class is that I ask the Interns to write a CCAR accomplishment about their project that they are working on now at their National Park.

Here is an example of CCAR Accomplishment that I typed – live – when I as at Lincoln National Forest a few years ago.

Context…Challenge…Actions… Results. After the CCAR story, you can see a short version of the same story to be added into the Federal REsume, under KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Writing accomplishments in your resume can help you get Referred, Interviewed and Selected for a position. The CCAR writing for your federal resume is critical.

I have a CCAR Builder (an online form – easy to use) on my website for writing your work accomplishment stories. I use this in training all the time to get thew attendees to remember the details of their projects. You should try it out. This works for the story-telling you will need in your behavior-based interview, for your federal resume, and for your annual evaluation. Inventorying the New Mexico Jumping Mouse

Challenge
The challenge was that there was very little known about the critter. Extremely trap shy and there was no formal protocol put into place for this inventory project. There was a time limit because of a law suit produced by Wetland Degradation Law Suit by private law owner who wanted water from the Wetlands owned by the Forest Service.

Context
As the Lead Biological Technician at Lincoln National Forest, I was tasked with inventorying Zapus Hudsonius – New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse. This is a candidate species under the ESA.

Actions
1. Implemented a protocol for trapping the population. This protocol involved trap spacing, size of traps, and bait to be used for the trapping.
2. Lead and trained a team of four biological science technicians within the wetlands to set out approximately 200 traps. Trained in capture techniques and species identification.
3. Caught two of the species and referred the information to the US Fish and Wildlife Service for help with the decision to list the Jumping Mouse as an endangered species list.
4. Developed a data sheet, analyzed data and wrote reports on the findings. Presented information about the project to community groups.

Results
Within 2 months, captured two species, prepared the report for possibility of endangered species and determined suitable habitat for the species for future conservation.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENT:

In MM/YY, after a lawsuit over Forest Service wetlands erupted, I lead a team to inventory NM wetlands denizen Zapus Hudsonius, the elusive New Mexico Meadow Jumping Mouse, a candidate for ESA protection. Under legal deadline pressure, I implemented a trapping protocol (size, spacing, bait, etc.) then led the team 4 technicians to deploy ~200 traps. With two of the rare animals captured in two months, I developed data sheets and analysis and reported to USFWS for endangered species and habitat conservation decision-making. I also presented project information to concerned community groups.
