A new website has been launched to help employers select technology (programs and hardware) that will work for all abilities. Looking for a resource regarding creating an inclusive environment where your technology will work for differently-abled/disabled people and meet all current federal accessible technology laws? Check it out: www.PEATworks.org. This is a new site so we are going to keep an eye on it and see how well it lives up to its mission. Please let us know what you think.

Some items you may want to take a look at:

Legal requirements have gone beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act. For example: If you subcontract with the federal government for more than $10,000, did you know that you need to ensure that all of your online employee training programs (like safety programs) need to be accessible in some way to all-ability people? Could someone who is deaf follow along with your video based PPE program? See the information on The Rehabilitation Act. It is something to think about.

Do you have employees work from their own computers or smart phones on company programs (including email)? If so, do you know if your third party email program provider allows for a non-standard adaptive/accessible device to log in? Check out the information on what they call “BYOD” – Bring Your Own Device.
