NCTM's Journals Go Online for Institutions through JSTOR in January 2012 RESTON, Va., December 7, 2011—The
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) announces that beginning January 1, 2012, NCTM's teacher and research journals will be available online to institutions through JSTOR. On a single platform, users will have seamless access to the full run of each of the Council's journals—
Teaching Children Mathematics (
TCM),
Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School (MTMS),
Mathematics Teacher (MT), and the
Journal for Research in Mathematics Education (JRME)—beginning with a journal's first issue through its most recent issue.
By joining JSTOR (
Journal Storage), NCTM will provide its
member institutions and their faculties and students with the leading resources in mathematics education though JSTOR's Current Scholarship Program. This program gives users the ability to read current and past journals (up to five years old). In addition, institutions have the option to add the archival content of
TCM, MTMS, MT, and
JRME to their subscription through JSTOR's backfile collection. It will no longer be necessary to visit a campus library to locate a print edition of a journal; instead, users will be able to download material on their laptops from the comfort of their room or favorite coffeehouse. Several options are available under the JSTOR platform, including access by individuals. JSTOR currently is available through more than 7,000 institutions, with over 1,400 scholarly journals participating in the program.
