Nonprofit organization, Pin-Ups For Vets, Celebrates The Month of June With A Salute To Dairy Farmers

Pin-Ups For Vets Founder and calendar model, Gina Elise, loves yogurt, ice cream, and cheese, but she also loves America's Veterans. So, during the pre-production phase of her 6th annual "Pin-Ups For Vets" fundraiser calendar that benefits hospitalized Veterans, Elise made the decision to also honor America's hard-working farmers during the month of June, designated as National Dairy Month.

Elise got the permission of dairy farmer Daryl Koops in Ontario, California, to stage her June pin-up calendar photo with his Northview Dairy cows. Koop's cows, who appear in the photo with Elise, help produce Challenge Butter, the largest selling brand in the West. Challenge Dairy Products, Inc. is a cooperative association responsible for the marketing and distribution of dairy products produced from 450 large family-owned dairies. Challenge Dairy has had a tradition for natural, quality dairy products since 1911.

National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. It was initially created to stabilize the dairy demand when production was at a surplus, but has now developed into an annual tradition that celebrates the contributions the dairy industry has made to the world. After the National Dairy Council stepped in to promote the cause, the name soon changed to "Dairy Month."

Elise, who poses next to the dairy cows while holding a bottle of milk, in her calendar's June photo, says that those who served in the military have a lot in common with farmers. "For both jobs, it is a test of survival. In both professions, the individuals have to endure an uphill battle, both often have to do dirty work, and neither job is for the faint of heart. Every day is a challenge out in the field. I think that oftentimes, Veterans and farmers are not as appreciated as they should be."

So, Elise says  she will proudly toast her beloved Veterans this month of June with a cold glass of milk produced from America's family-owned dairies. "Both our Veterans and our farmers are as American as apple pie. They protect us and they feed us, and they both deserve our thanks for a job well done."

During the month of June, Elise is continuing her tour to Veterans Hospitals across the U.S. Her next stop on her 50-state VA Hospital tour will be at the Providence VA Medical Center in Rhode Island, where Elise will personally visit hospitalized Veterans to deliver the "Pin-Ups For Vets" calendars and "Kiss A Vet" T-shirts donated for the ill and injured Vets by her devoted supporters.
