Jen Mueller Vies for North American Speaking Championship

Next Greatest Speaker

Dallas, TX -- July 10, 2012

Talk about pressure. This week Jen Mueller, Roots Sports reporter and Talk Sporty To Me blogger (http://talksportytome.com/)   will step in front of the television cameras and an audience of thousands in Dallas and give one of the toughest speeches of her life.

Mueller is one of 10 finalists chosen from over 1,000 applicants competing for the title of North America's Next Greatest Speaker.

The contest is run by the eWomenNetwork, the largest women's networking organization in North America. The semi-finals are on July 12th with the finals 2 days later on July 14 in Dallas, Texas.

The competition is being filmed as a pilot for a reality television show. Competitors will have three minutes to present their speech to four judges and an over flow audience of attendees from all over North America. The top three will be given six minutes to speak again on July 14th before a winner is chosen.

The champion will receive a $100 thousand prize package.

Mueller says that although she's given countless speeches, there's never been so much pressure to stand and deliver.

"To speak for three minutes is really challenging. You have to be really succinct and you have to get your message across in the allocated time, so there's no room for fluff," Mueller says.

Mueller says her topic for the competition will be developing a conversation strategy that works to build business relationship. The strategy is similar to the one she uses every day with professional athletes and coaches.

The TV show American Idol inspired the concept. "There are lots of reality shows featuring people who can sing, dance, entertain, even cook, but there's nothing out there to help discover rising stars in the speaking world," explains Kym Yancey, the President and Co-Founder of eWomenNetwork. "Public speaking is a multi-billion dollar industry and yet there's never been a platform to find the next Tony Robbins or Zig Ziglar."

As a professional speaker and America's Expert Talker, Jen Mueller is rarely at a loss for words, but she says to take home the title would practically leave them speechless. Although this week is more than a competitive contest for Mueller "I grew up in Houston and went to school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas so this week will be a bit of a homecoming for me."

Jen Mueller talks about Talk Sporty to Me: (http://talksportytome.com ) In the fall of 2008, I was approached by a group of business women with a problem. By all accounts, these women were very successful. They were smart and well educated. These women have established solid careers, and had earned the respect of their co-workers and clients. But despite all their success, they felt they were missing out on valuable opportunities to expand their client base - at sporting events. The women were rarely invited to entertain clients at baseball games, or football games. Those same women often felt intimidated when conversations turned from business to sports. Their dilemma led to the creation of Talk Sporty to Me. Since its inception, Talk Sporty to Me has been featured on KING 5, KOMO 4, KMPS 94.1, and MOViN 92.5.
