Gail Rubin, CT, The Doyenne of Death®

Few people can get audiences laughing while talking about death, but Gail Rubin, CT, The Doyenne of Death®, has built her career doing exactly that. A pioneering death educator and Certified Thanatologist, Rubin uses humor, film, and pop culture to start conversations that most people avoid, but everyone needs.

This fall, she's at the forefront of two major New Mexico events:

·       TEDxABQ 2025 (September 27 Electric Playhouse, Albuquerque, NM)

Rubin is one of 13 featured speakers at this year's event themed "Curiosity." Her talk will focus on Medical Aid in Dying and how curiosity can help us face life's most difficult chapter with courage, clarity, and compassion.

·       Before I Die New Mexico Festival (October 13 Albuquerque, NM)

Now in its eighth year, Rubin founded this festival to spark crucial conversations about mortality. The festival brings together experts, a resource fair, and interactive activities to encourage participants to plan ahead for end-of-life issues, explore options for care, and live more fully in the present.

Gail Rubin is available for interviews to discuss:

·       Why talking about death is essential for living a better life

·       How humor and curiosity can break through cultural taboos

·       What audiences can expect at TEDxABQ and the Before I Die NM Festival

·       Practical steps individuals and families can take to prepare for the future

Rubin has been recognized as a pioneering voice in the death-positive movement, and her work has been featured in major media outlets nationwide. She is the author of several books on end-of-life planning and hosts the Mortality Movies TV series and the Doyenne of Death® podcast. She was one of the first people to hold a Death Cafe in the United States.
