Leanpub is one of those under-the-radar services that I like to shine the spotlight on from time to time. The tool was built for computer book authors to be able to publish their work early and often. Why? Because when geeks need the info, they don’t care if there’s are spelling errors or even if a whole chapter (or more) is missing.
Turns out that this model is great for other kinds of writers, too. Any non-fiction author with a how-to book, and travel authors who want to publish in realtime, then clean up their “book” for later publication, and any kind of storyteller who wants to sell a subscription or series.
This lets indie authors get paid while they’re writing, not after. Great for us starving artist types! But indie publishers can also set up an account and start selling a catalog on Leanpub, too.
I’m also sending Leanpub a virtual indie pub smooch for providing Pay What You Want Pricing (PWYW$). This lets us use Leanpub to crowdfund our work. Now where’s the money! (
Ask your 1000 True Fans.)
There’s more. They have a bookstore, a book widget you can embed on your website, and the book files output to PDF for print, EPUB for ebooks and mobi for Kindle.
